Fan Installation Done Correctly
Ceiling fans are heavier than light fixtures and, unlike a fixture, they move — which puts repeated mechanical stress on the ceiling box over years of use. Fans are required to be mounted on a box specifically listed for fan support, rated for the weight and motion involved, rather than a standard box intended only for a light fixture. Before hanging any fan, we confirm the box is fan-rated and properly secured to the framing, adding support if the existing box isn't adequate for the fan being installed.
Services We Provide
Our ceiling fan work covers the full range of installation and repair needs:
- New fan installation with a fan-rated box and bracing
- Replacing an old fan with a new one on existing wiring
- Wiring fans with separate light and fan switch control
- Repairing wobble, noise, or speed control problems
- Installing remote and wall control kits
Diagnosing Wobble and Noise
A wobbling fan is most often caused by unbalanced blades, a blade that has warped slightly, or a mounting bracket that has loosened over time — issues that have nothing to do with the electrical box. We check blade balance and tighten mounting hardware as the first step, since this resolves the majority of wobble complaints. If the fan continues to move at the ceiling itself, or the canopy shifts visibly, we then inspect the box and its bracing to confirm it's still properly secured to the framing.
Humming or buzzing from a fan is frequently a loose wire connection vibrating inside the switch or fixture, or a speed control switch that's not rated for the fan's motor type. We isolate the actual cause rather than just tightening blades and hoping the noise resolves on its own.
Matching the Fan to the Room
Fan size, blade span, and mounting style (flush, standard downrod, or sloped-ceiling adapter) should match the room's ceiling height and square footage. A fan that's undersized for a large room moves less air than expected; an oversized fan in a small room can feel overwhelming and may not have adequate clearance. We talk through room dimensions and ceiling type with you before installation so the fan you've chosen is a good fit for the space.
Downrod Length and Ceiling Height
Fan performance and clearance both depend on how far the fan hangs below the ceiling, which is set by the downrod length. A fan mounted too close to the ceiling moves less air efficiently, while one that hangs too low in a room with lower ceilings can become a clearance hazard. We measure the room and review the fan manufacturer's downrod recommendations before installation so the fan is positioned appropriately for that specific ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can any electrical box support a ceiling fan?
No. Fans need a box specifically rated and braced for the added weight and motion. We verify or upgrade the box as part of installation.
Why does my ceiling fan wobble?
Most wobble comes from unbalanced blades or a loose mounting bracket. If the fan or ceiling moves visibly at the box, we inspect the mounting and bracing as well.
Can you add a separate switch for the fan and light?
Yes. We can wire fans so the light and fan motor are controlled independently, including with remote or wall controls.
